Please join us in congratulating this year's scholarship recipients, James Higgins, Savannah Higgins, Declan McClary, Kayla Nealy, and Asia Smith.
James Higgins - Pensacola State College.
James says that a degree in construction management can significantly contribute to making the world a better place in several ways. Construction management is a multidisciplinary field that involves planning, coordinating, and overseeing construction projects from inception to completion. Construction managers play a key role in the development of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, and public utilities. By managing construction projects, I can contribute to the creation of safer, more efficient, and sustainable infrastructure that enhances the quality of life for communities.
Savannah Higgins - Pensacola State College.
Savannah feels a degree in psychology has the potential to significantly impact and improve the world in various ways. Psychologists can influence public policy by providing evidence-based recommendations on issues such as mental health care, education reform, criminal justice, and social welfare programs. By advocating for policies that prioritize mental health services, promote social justice, and address societal inequalities, psychologists can contribute to creating a more equitable and compassionate society.
Declan McClary - Florida Gulf Coast University.
Declan states that receiving this scholarship would empower me to pursue my dreams of using psychology to create a better world. It would provide the financial support needed to excel academically, engage in meaningful research and practical experiences, and build a strong foundation for a career focused on making a positive impact. With this scholarship, I am confident that I can contribute significant research to the field of psychology and work towards creating a more compassionate, understanding, and emotionally intelligent world for all.
Kayla Nealy - Alabama State University
Kayla states she plans to pursue my goals of studying performing arts as I have been training in dance for over 7 years. Studying performing arts and business management will allow me to build my own creative space and open young black artists of my community to have a place where they could call home, feel free to express their artist visions as many have done for me, and also receive many great opportunities in the dance industry.
Asia Smith - University of Florida. (Picture Coming Soon)
Asia writes: As I enter my senior year of college, I have been fortunate enough to pursue both professional and personal endeavors. I've had the pleasure of leading service projects dedicated to aiding the hunger crisis relief in Gainesville, mentoring young girls, generating donations for the misfortune, and creating bonds in our community. One of the initiatives led under my committee was providing free SAT and ACT prep materials for those of underrepresented backgrounds.
